First identify exactly where the item was lost. Airport terminals, airline cabins, security areas, lounges, shops, and public transport can have different lost-property holders. For Haneda Airport, the official guidance directs most terminal inquiries to its dedicated lost-and-found chat, while some controlled areas and airline facilities use different contacts.

Separate airport and airline responsibility
If the item was left on an aircraft, contact the operating airline. For a terminal, shop, security checkpoint, lounge, or transport connection, identify the facility that controlled that area.

Prepare flight and location details
Provide the date, approximate time, terminal, airline, flight number, arrival or departure area, gate or shop, and the route you took through the airport.

Describe the item precisely
Include category, brand, model, color, size, serial number, contents, distinctive marks, and a reference photo. Avoid sending full identity-document images until the holder explains its secure process.

Confirm release and police-transfer rules
Ask how long the holder keeps the item, whether and when it moves to police, and whether domestic shipment or authorized third-party collection is available. These rules vary by holder and item type.
Frequently asked questions
Who handles an item left on a plane?
The operating airline normally handles aircraft-cabin items. Use the airline shown on your ticket, including when the flight was sold by a codeshare partner.
What are Haneda Airport's lost-property chat hours?
Haneda's official lost-and-found page states that the chat support center handles inquiries from 9:00 to 21:00, including Sundays and holidays. New inquiries after 21:00 are handled from the following morning.
When does an airport item move to police?
There is no single airport-wide period. The holder, location, and item category affect storage and transfer, so ask for the current deadline and reference number.
